Woodstock's Thermal Imaging Project West Oxfordshire District Council has agreed to loan a thermal imaging camera to Community groups in West Oxfordshire to assist with their policies of home energy conservation. A Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) is not like a conventional camera but shows in a graphical format the amount of heat radiating from a building or any other source of heat.
Sustainable Woodstock has offered to undertake Thermal Imaging surveys for residents in Woodstock, Wootton and Bladon free of charge and to provide a brief report of the survey findings. The thermal image shows an outline of your house and where you might benefit from more loft insulation, or draught excluder on the doors and windows, or perhaps where better reflectors behind radiators would reduce heat losses. The camera can only give an effective picture when the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures is ten to fifteen degrees Celsius so it is best measured a couple of hours after sunset on a cold still winter's night. Sustainable Woodstock may not get to borrow the camera this winter as we are not first in the queue and there is much demand for it. The mild autumn has also meant a slow start to surveys, but there is still a chance we will get the camera in February or March. So if you would like your home included in the survey please let me know (01993 811977 or click here to email us, putting "Thermal Image" in the subject line). No images will be made without the specific consent of the householder but it’s a free service to encourage greater fuel efficiency and carbon savings.
